Coral Springs Police will be the first agency in South Florida to implement CopDots technology to residents, which is referred to as DNA for your property. CopDots is a high tech adhesive that contains thousands of tiny dots smaller than the size of a grain of sand. Each dot has a unique irremovable number on it, referred to as your DNA number. CopDots is applied with a pen-like applicator that is simple and allows the DNA to be placed on any type of property. The CopDots technology allows residents to partner with their local law enforcement agencies to work together in reducing property crimes. Law enforcement has always encouraged citizens to mark their property, but this new technology will make it more efficient and effective. CopDots President Shawn Andreas stated, “We are very excited to bring this new technology to South Florida and begin here in Coral Springs, an agency known for its aggressive stance in crime prevention. This technology is not just an excellent method to identify and return stolen or lost property to its rightful owner, but it will also act as a deterrent to criminals that target personal property. CopDots will change the way law enforcement fights property crimes.” Coral Springs Police Chief Tony Pustizzi stated, “Our priority is to prevent crimes, and utilizing this new technology will send a strong message to criminals that the City of Coral Springs as well as the South Florida region is going to fight back against property crime. We will use the most advanced technologies to prevent and even convict criminals who target personal property of the residents in our community.” CopDots can be purchased at any Lowes Hardware store in the South Florida region.
