Correspondence from The Met Office this morning: The early yellow - TopicsExpress

Correspondence from The Met Office this morning: The early yellow alert issued on Thursday has been re-issued as a yellow warning for Saturday 7th September valid from midnight through until late Saturday evening. This has been assessed as a low likelihood of medium impacts – mainly due to the recent dry weather leaving ground and water courses in an initially good position to cope with a significant rainfall event. metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warnings/#?tab=map Heavy rain will spread from the east overnight and persist well into Saturday morning giving 20-40mm quite widely but with a risk of locally 60mm or more over parts of the Antrim hills, and Sperrins. By Saturday afternoon, while the most persistent rain may slowly edge away westwards, heavy, locally slow moving and potentially thundery showers will follow and these may well linger into Saturday evening or even the early hours of Sunday. A period of raised awareness for the risk of localised surface water flooding is necessary throughout Saturday. In addition, with a cold wind and temperatures little better than 13C – the lowest since early May – the outlook for planned outdoor events is rather grim.
