Crisis has hit the Kaduna chapter of the All - TopicsExpress

Crisis has hit the Kaduna chapter of the All Progressives Congress, forcing its Interim Chairman and former Secretary, Independent National Electoral Commission, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, to resign. Adducing reasons for his sudden resignation, Baba- Ahmed said he had to quit as chairman of the party in the state because former members of the Muhammadu Buhari-led defunct Congress for Progressive Change wanted to hijack the party. He maintained that despite quitting the position of the chairman in the state, he still remained a loyal member of the party and was prepared to assist the party to bring real change to Kaduna State. In the letter of resignation dated February 3, 2014, and made available to newsmen on Monday, the former chairman of the party regretted that he was quitting the office at a crucial time. He said despite repositioning the party in 21 out of the 23 local governments in the state, the national leadership of the party, never acknowledged the efforts of the party promoters. The letter read in part, Dear colleagues, you know that this has not been easy. Our national leaders have never even acknowledged that we exist, or that we are one of the very few states successfully building one united party out of the legacy parties, a task we were assigned by NEC. My person and position has been made an embarrassing and distracting issue by a few former Congress for Progressive Change legislators, who wanted things done their own ways. I will always be grateful to the vast majority of Interim Management Committee members, including many fellow former CPC members for standing by me during these trying times. Just when we thought we have successfully prepared our members to participate in an important registration exercise, our efforts are again being subverted by the indifference of our leaders and the antics of a few former CPC legislators. The registration exercise in our state is being threatened by crass ambition, supported by weak, visionless and fractured leadership. I cannot be part of this, and I cannot in all honesty lead a party by having to grovel and beg for space to serve millions of our fellow members
