Crossroads Vineyard Church Devotional > THURSDAY, July 25th “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (Matthew 5:6) Does the Lord want to give us just what we need… and no more?! Does being holy mean being miserable? Do we think God won’t give us what we want the most because it’s selfish? Actually, our ‘righteous’ desires come from God. They are what He wants most for us. It’s true that sometimes our desires need to be purified. It is alright – and even good - to have material ‘things’; but none of that really matters if we do not hunger and thirst for righteousness and fellowship with God. The Lord will help you to understand that He is all you need for life and happiness. You will be filled to complete satisfaction when we realize that there is nothing in this life more important than God. >Today’s Bible Reading: Isaiah 55:1-3 “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3 Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. Isaiah 58:6-11 6 “Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? 7 Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter— when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? 8 Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. 9 Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I. “If you do away with the yoke of oppression, with the pointing finger and malicious talk, 10 and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed, then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday. 11 The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.
