Cut and pasted parts of a conversation with some young santo buff last night: The idea is not to be a termite queen over drones that one can manipulate to post or wage proxy wars in the cyber world; spreading throughout eating away at all the good will that is so fragile to begin with. True loyalty in the santo world is gained not through popularity by beauty but through substance ---substance not in the elitist high brow standard of jilos de oro and eburnea (not that I have found anything wrong with ivory, and I have been guilty of my own standards) but in arming oneself with information even if that modicum of it can be debated. Nobody realizes how precious a commodity all that information is from something so trivial like who is this sculptor, or where one can buy fabric, to something that can fire-up exchanges like the identity of Maria Cleofas and Maria Jacobe. And its been going around, shuffled, reinterpreted, revisited, chewed-up by starlets, and to the extreme had been the subject of death threats. And I am no stranger to threats; yet I am still alive, arent I? Eheheheh. Information holds such power that it has made insufferable self-righteous know-it-alls drown in half-a-glass of cyber fame. And after all the bashing, backstabbing, satire, online character assassination, you ask why I still keep tabs on online santo groups? I really have no specific answer. It changes from day to day. Sometimes you want starlets to turn into falling stars, other times you want to check how far deep into the depths of laOcean Deep the Laos are trying to ascend from, or what travesty towards iconography begs to ask Anyare?, or just to respond to someone who wants a simple answer --hoping that maybe it helps-- And sometimes you just snap when people use the devotion card far too often... The santo world changes you. My uncle once said May diablong cayang cumapit sa capa ng poon and sadly that holds true.
