#CuttingOffTheRing Here are some things that Bermane Stiverne failed to execute being the smaller man vs. the lanky undefeated Bronze Bomber Deontay Wilder. All of these listed things wouldve definitely increased Stivernes success rate and chances of retaining his belt. For this #EGOFilmStudy We can look no further than Mike Tyson who is a prime example of what Stiverne needed to do. Now Mike Tyson was customarily the smaller man in his fights since he was a shorter Heavyweight. Biggs had previously beaten Tyson in the amateurs. This was @miketysons chance for REVENGE. In his fight with Tyrell Biggs he gave up a lot of size. Tyson is about 510 and Biggs 65, Bigg also had an 80 reach advantage over Tysons 71 reach, thats 9 inches! But Tyson had perfected his role as the smaller man and was very used to fighting with his stature, making him extremely effective. First thing Bermane Stiverne DID NOT do effectively is CUT OFF THE RING. As you can tell in this provided clip, Tyson did not FOLLOW BIGGS, he Cut Off The Ring. Meaning, that he would BLOCK THE EXITS AND ESCAPE ROUTES of Biggs who was trying to keep this fight at distance and use his height to outbox Tyson possibly creating a knockdown or stoppage. To do this Tyson merely STEPPED WITH Biggs and cut off the ring. Its also a rhythmic thing that requires anticipation. You have to anticipate where your target is going, and BEAT THEM TO THE PUNCH both literally and figuratively. By doing this you force your opponent to stop moving in the direction they want to move in. You can in essence reroute them to where you want them to be, in turn setting up future shots. Think of it like a cars GPS, once you punch the address into the GPS, from then on the navigation is going to give you directions to that destination. If you miss a turn, the GPS will REROUTE you. By cutting off the ring effectively, you force your opponent to Reroute when they dont want to. Gennady Golovkin is another more current fighter that excels with this concept. Stiverne instead FOLLOWED the extremely tall Wilder & stayed on the end of Wilders punches. #BoxingEGO #MikeTyson #StiverneWilder
