Nearly seven thousand spectators were euphoric when Petr Novak scored. Novak was the captain of the Czech national team at the World Championships in Pilsen in 2009. I can recall happy moments and memories with my buddy and teammate Leos. In the semi-finals against the Slovaks, after two periods we were in big trouble and our expectation to go to the finals was in doubt. Nevertheless we were able to come back and win the game. The result of the tournament was amazing, the gold medal for the Czechs after twelve years of competing and in our homeland! It was a wonderful 14 days which I will remember for a lifetime. Was that tournament the peak of your career? Yes. Listening to the anthem after the finals and to see my parents [in the stands], which without them I wouldn’t even be here. My dream came true and Ill remember it always. What goes through a players head when he scores the winning goal in the final game of World Championships? Nothing (smiles). Just multiply the most wonderful feeling by hundred and thats it. How did the team celebrate your victory? Our team felt like Word Champions for a while. I personally stayed awake till 8 am in the laundry room of the hotel with Pavol Kubes. A great memory (laughing). The final was played in front of almost 7,000 spectators. What did the players think of that experience?? It was beautiful, but also a binding experience for us. I speak for myself when I say this but my legs were shaking already in the warm-up. It was really special and ball hockey moved to a completely different dimension. Was the World Championship style atmosphere present everywhere in Pilsen, the host city, while the tournament was underway? Yes. The tournament was put on with such great efforts and amazing volunteers. Pilsen did a great job. It was great that the audience of the arena was crowded with thousands of people from all over the country. How has ball hockey in Pilsen developed since the 2009 WC? From my own experience, and from the point of view of sports, I think everything has gotten faster and players run much more. And then there is this global view of the game had by a lot of players and for them, the game has become more complex. Looking back, do you think people can say that the 2009 WC was a turning point in some way? From a certain point of view, yes. In terms of promotion and awareness of the sport, absolutely. On the other hand, I think that it could be promoted even more, but exactly how to do that is a really difficult question. Na toto představení před domácími fanoušky se mohou současní reprezentanti pokusit už za dva roky v Pardubicích. Jaké vzpomínky máte na MS v Plzni? Měli jsme úžasný servis. Super hotel, šatnu, měli jsme trenéra, který neříkal klišé, měl svůj styl a svoji auru, na Leoše strašně rád vzpomínám. Když nám v semifinále po dvou třetinách se Slovenskem teklo do bot a finále se nevyvíjelo dle našich představ, dokázali jsme to zlomit na naši stranu. A skončilo to zlatem po dvanácti letech a doma. Pro všechny tyto důvody to bylo nádherných 14 dní, na které budu vzpomínat do konce života. Takže se dá mluvit o vrcholu kariéry? Ano, byl to pro mě vrchol kariéry. Poslouchat hymnu po finále a vidět moje rodiče, díky kterým chodím, na tribuně. Splnilo se mi to a do smrti na to budu vzpomínat. Co se honí člověku hlavou, když dá vítězný gól ve finále MS? Nic. (úsměv) Prostě vynásobte si nádherný pocit stem a to je ono. Jaké byly oslavy vítězství? Prostě náš tím jsi chvíli připadali jako šampioni a o tom to bylo. Já osobně jsem končil v 8 ráno v prádelně hotelu s Pavlem Kubešem a to je nesmazatelná vzpomínka. (smích) Finále se hrálo před bezmála 7000 diváků. To je pro hráče velký zážitek, že? Jak už jsem říkal, samozřejmě to krásné bylo, ale zároveň i svazující. Budu mluvit za sebe, mě se klepaly nohy už při rozcvičce jako u maturity. Bylo to opravdu krásné a hokejbal tím pro nás všechny dostal úplně jiný rozměr. V Plzni to hokejbalem žilo, bylo to MS cítit skoro všude ve městě? Já říkám, že ten turnaj byl zvládnutý, a to i z pohledu propagace. Bylo to příjemné, že se do haly sjížděly tisíce lidí z celé republiky bylo skvělé. Jak se hokejbal od toho MS v Plzni posunul? To je individuální pohled. A navíc více rovin. Jednak sportovní, myslím, že je vše rychlejší a více se běhá. Poté ten globální a ten je složitý. Dá se říct, že to MS bylo v něčem zlomové? Z určitého pohledu ano. Pro propagaci a povědomí o tom sportu. Na druhou stranu si myslím, že se dálo zprodukovat více, ale to je opravdu složitá otázka. Nach zwei Drittel im Halbfinale mit der Slowakei haben waren wir in großen Schwierigkeiten und Erwartungen ins Finale zu kommen erfüllten sich nur schwierig, dennoch konnten wir die Situation zu brechen. Das Ergebnis war erstaunlich, Goldmedaillen nach zwölf Jahren und in der Heimat! Aus allen diesen Gründen waren es wunderbare 14 Tage, die Ich mein Leben lang nicht vergesse. Also können wir über dem Höhepunkt Ihrer Karriere zu sprechen? Ja, es war für mich mein Karriere Höhepunkt. Die Nationalhymne nach den Ende des Spiels zu hören und zu meinen Eltern, dankend Ihnen Ich gehe, zu schauen. Mein Traum wurde wahr, und ich werde immer daran denken. Was geht in den Kopf eines Kerles, wenn er den Siegertor im Finale der WM schießt? Nichts. (Lächeln). Multiplizieren sie sich das wunderbare Gefühl mit hundert und das ist es. Wie war die Feier? Unser Team fühlte sich wie die Weltmeister für eine Weile. Ich persönlich blieb bis 8.00 Uhr morgens in der Waschküche des Hotels mit Pavol Kubes und das ist eine tolle Erinnerung. (Lacht) Das Finale wurde vor fast 7 000 Zuschauern gespielt. Dies ist ein tolles Erlebnis für die Spieler, hab Ich Recht? Wie gesagt, natürlich war es schön, aber auch sehr bindend für uns. Jetzt spreche Ich für mich selbst, meine Beine schüttelten schon im Warm-up, es war für mich wie bei der Matura. Es war wirklich schön und Ball Hockey hatte plötzlich eine ganz andere Dimension. Die Stadt Pilsen lebte mit Ball-Hockey, war die Atmosphäre von WM überall in der Stadt zu spüren? Ich sage, dass das Turnier wurde super gemeistert, auch im Hinblick auf die Propagation. Es war schön, dass das Publikum in der Arena aus Tausenden von Menschen aus allen Teilen des Landes überfüllt wurde. Wie hat sich Ball Hockey in Pilsen seit 2009 WM entwickelt? Dies ist ein individueller Standpunkt. Und hat mehrere Ebene. Zum einen aus der Sicht des Sports, Ich denke, alles ist schneller und die Spieler laufen mehr. Und dann gibt es diese globale Sicht und das ist dann komplizierter. Kann man sagen, dass die 2009 WM ein Wendepunkt in irgendeiner Weise waren? Von einem gewissen Standpunkt aus, ja.
