DAILY DEVOTIONS - VOL 7 DAY 5 1ST Corinthians 2: 11 – 16 Who among men knows the thoughts of a man except a man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God, except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?” But we have the mind of Christ. We think of ourselves as having body, mind and spirit. We were created that way by God. However, the mind of mankind rebelled against God. We wanted to be our own gods. By so doing we have a spirit that does not come from God. There is no doubt that the human spirit can produce many good things. Our world has been blessed by writers, inventors, farmers, mechanics, philosophers, poets, musicians, doctors, and many others doing good things. Yet, the only way we can discern the mind and the will of God is through the presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Paul, confronted by the wisdom of the world, proclaimed Christ as the Savior of the world, a proclamation that was foolishness to the human mind and spirit. But when the Holy Spirit comes to us, there Is acceptance and trust given by grace, through faith that God’s Son came to save us. This is called spirituality, and as we grow in grace it will become a passionate spirituality! Let us pray: “Come, gracious Spirit heavenly dove, with light and comfort from above. Come, be our guardian and our guide; o’er every thought and step preside.” Amen. (Simon Browne 1680 – 1732) George and Elizabeth Moore
