DEAR FRIENDS, UPDATE RE ISTANBUL: The extent of brutal violence inflicted by the police on the people of Istanbul tonight is BEYOND DESCRIPTION. This is completely vicious, disproportionate, unjustified, unprecedented violence: The police has recently literally attacked a hospital (see the link below)! A hotel in Central Istanbul where people, including women with children, took shelter to avoid deadly chemicals and rubber bullets is still being attacked with heavy tear gas. Doctors have confirmed that water sprayed on people from police cannons is diluted with chemicals. The Prime Minister and the rest of the AKP government have once again showed that they have absolutely no respect for human rights, democracy and freedom of speech. The brave people of Istanbul are still standing firm in the face of unspeakable violence and oppression BUT the situation is extremely serious.
