DEDICATED TO HER WHO BIRTHED ME. Mum, it would be too late to eulogize you at your grave side, and that is way far away in time. I cant be patient till then to give you your due celebration. You are an awesome mama. Where do I begin? Should I start with a prologue? Would a climax start be better? Ofcourse, there is no denoument yet. The storyline of your beauty is still fully on course. Mum, you are an epitome of a true woman, wife and mother. Your benevolence transcends beyond just your children. You treat all under your roof alike. I want to first say a big thank you to you for saying YES to our fathers (your husbands) marriage proposal. For without this great consent, we(your children) would have missed out on this rare priviledge we enjoy as the progeny of such high breed progenitors. The two qualities in you that have left an indelible mark on me are your fearlessness and ability to endure tough times. We grew up to be acquianted with the story of how far you can endanger yourself for the sake of your children. The story goes that during the Ken Saro Wiwa led Ogoni agitations, soldiers occupied the Ogoni villages; causing everybody to flee for safety into the forest. We were all carried along. At a point in time, the food meant for clement(who then was still a suckling) got exhausted. Unable to bear the sight of his going hungry, you ran back into the village against the warning and plea of all those around who were scared you would come to some harm. You penetrated the army formation, got to the house; took what you wanted and came back to satisfy your baby. Wont calling you are hero be an understatement? You are a pure example of women who fully understand what the part of the marriage vow which says for better, for worse really entails. I remember vividly how you stood by your husband when things turned the other way round. How, in order to make ends meet, you went to the extreme of pushing wheel barrow along the streets of Bori, peddling cooked food. Not minding that you were heavily pregnant. Inspite of pressures from different angles to abandon your husband and children for greener pastures, you stood your ground beside your man. Your attitude greatly soothed his fears. Even when he left us for the great beyond and people expected you to re-marry, you refused for fear of any negative impact that might have on us. Mummy, I have not given you half the attention you deserve. I have not called or text you as often as I ought to, yet you have remainf a true friend with much love and sacrifice. You introduced Christ to us. This has been the illuminating light on our path to greatness. Your ceaseless prayers offered on our behest has been our source of constant re-enforcement. If re-incarnation was a reality, I would give anything to be your child again. I am so luckiest to be birthed by such an upsome maama. A BIG THANK YOU TO YOU MUM
