(DFD) Suspicious Liquid in Street Drain - REVISED (Photo Credit:Charles Wells) 3-26-2014 At 6:07 pm TUESDAY evening a Danville Fire Department unit from 3rd Ave. was dispatched to check on a suspicious liquid in a street drain at 215 3rd. Ave. A Danville PD Officer already on the scene directed them to the location of the drain. At that time the liquid had already advanced to the small stream running through the area. The Company Officer on the Fire Unit took Command of the situation and began to stop the flow in the drain. He also requested the Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team from Fire Station Seven be dispatched to the scene along with a Battalion Chief. Once on the scene the HAZMAT team began the process of identifying the product. Another Fire Unit from Headquarters was dispatched for manpower. It was found that personnel were stripping floors at the church and the run-off was going into a floor drain which went to the street. The product was identified as floor stripper and the state HAZMAT Officer was called for advice while the Team on scene tested the product and found it not to be of a toxic nature and that there was no harm to the environment nor persons. The water in the creek had diluted the stripper and rendered it harmless since it was water soluble. Absorbent booms were placed in the stream to pick up the residue and the scene was secure.
