DHillArmy Update: (Nov. 10th to Nov. 16th) As you all know, Dave had DPS surgery last Monday (Nov.10th). The first few days of healing were rough. Dave fought through heartwrenching nerve pain & muscle spasms which had heightened from the surgery however he is #dhillstrong & he still attended occupational, physical & recreational therapy. Dr. Zadoff, Daves Shepherd Center pulmonologist along with respiratory therapist have been working aggressively alongside Dave with the DPS. Dr. Zadoff programed & turned on Daves DPS Wednesday Nov 12th & by Sunday, Dave was already breathing (without the vent) for 10 minutes each hour & pacing from 9am-10pm - which is very impressive! Dr. Zadoff increases the pacer settings & time off the vent based on tolerability & tidal volume. This is a process done to safely wean Daves body off of the ventilator. The Shepherd Center has scheduled Dave to be released on Tuesday November 25th from inpatient care/therapy. Dave will travel back to our home with a medical team on a medflight & ambulance Even though Dave loves his Shepherd Center team & peer support friends. He is ready to continue the road to recovery at home. Dave hopes to come back to Shepherd to visit & attend their day program sometime in the future. The NFLs Atlanta Falcons dropped by the Shepherd Center Tuesday Nov. 11th & visited Dave in his room. It was cool, especially since we recently watched them on HBOs Hard Knocks - Training Camp with The Atlanta Falcons. The team spent time chatting, signing autographs & admiring Daves Arnold Schwarzenegger poster & gator gear. The Falcons encouraged Dave to keep fighting hard, & stay strong! Saturday Nov 15th, Dave, his mom Ann & I went with the Shepherd Center crew for an outing to The World of Coca-Cola. It was a lot of fun & we enjoyed taste testing world wide Coca-Cola products. At the gift shop, Dave bought himself a new Coca-Cola hat, a bottle opener, koozie (for his collection) & a Christmas ornaments for me (a tradition of ours).
