DISCERNMENT FOR JUSTICE AND GOOD GOVERNANCE The Supreme Court has declared both the PDAP and DAP as unconstitutional, and the peoples march to good governance has began. The landmark decisions should serve as guide in our discernment of what is right and just in the complex web of politics and governance. The lack of remorse among legislators charged with plunder for misusing their pork barrel allocations under PDAF and portraying themselves as persecuted heroes is certainly objectionable to informed and discerning citizens. To many star-strucked fans and recipients of political dole outs, deciphering the cause and effect of corruption, patronage politics and poor governance is far too removed from self-realization. Will the SC decision against DAP be treated in a similar tone? The administration has declared it was intended and used for the national good ! Resignation is not even an option considered by those directly involved. What now Philippines? With options that may prove even worst, the concerned and more discerning citizenry has no choice but to push its role further into the political arena. Active engagement through information dissemination and education of electorates towards good and efficient governance is a duty and responsibility bestowed upon the more capable and blessed among us. When the government and leaders fail, the citizenry has an obligation to muster and exercise the required leadership to protect and advance the peoples interest and welfare. The Peoples Initiative ( PI ) empowers people to directly legislate to enact, amend or abolish laws. It gives us the opportunity to carry on and do what is right for our nation and people, where our leaders have failed us.
