DISCUSSION: ARE FANS RIGHT TO RIOT WHEN REFEREES ERR? Kabwe Warriors fans at the weekend caused the abandonment of a Week 23 league match against Kabwe Warriors was WRONGLY disallowed. From well placed sources, referee Chiwoyu Sinyangwe awarded a free kick to Warriors in injury time which Lameck Kafwaya expertly converted to tie the score at 1-1. Shockingly, Sinyangwe disallowed the goal alleging that he had awarded an indirect kick which he did not signal with the customary raising of one hand until the ball is kicked. Last week, Warriors fans caused the stoppage of their match against Nkana when a late Josephat Kasusu goal for 1-1 was disallowed due to allegedly being offside. I have never heard of a referee in Zambia being barred for incompetent handling of matches. The referees desk at FAZ must give a report. The issue of questionable calls causing chaotic scenes on the pitch and terraces is becoming rampant in Zambian football. This is the third incident involving Warriors fans causing a match to be abandoned. The first one, a 3-1 loss at home to Green Eagles, had nothing to do with the referee. The fans wanted then coach Wesley Mondo out. Now, are fans right to riot when referees make wrong calls that cost teams valuable points or decide matches? Have your say.
