DOCTORS BONUSES - CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY ... ... we are now - TopicsExpress

DOCTORS BONUSES - CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHY ... ... we are now considering paying our doctors a BONUS for diagnosing DEMENTIA? Isnt it a doctors JOB to diagnose ANY illness and arent they already paid a good salary for doing that job? And with regard to other bonuses paid to top consultants ... I have a question ... IF YOU HAVE TO PAY A DOCTOR BONUSES ON TOP OF THEIR EXCELLENT SALARY, JUST FOR DOING THEIR JOB, OR TO PREVENT THEM FROM LEAVING FOR A MORE LUCRATIVE POST, SHOULDNT YOU ACTUALLY QUESTION WHAT MOTIVATES THAT DOCTOR TO BE A DOCTOR? IS IT THE MONEY OR IS IT THE GENUINE DESIRE TO DIAGNOSE AND CURE PEOPLE OR AT THE VERY LEAST IMPROVE THEIR LIVES? Yes, its not the easiest job in the world, but there are many other people doing difficult jobs for far less than a doctors salary and without bonuses ... there are people who climb down into sewers to inspect them, there are people who go out to sea in lifeboats, there are teachers who perform a myriad of roles for the children they are simply supposed to teach, there are carers who physically help and support the disabled every single day. Why are we turning doctors into an elite group of spoiled brats whose super-powers we are rewarding with not just a salary, but bonuses on top? Im very worried that they actually feel the NEED for that kind of motivation to simply do what we should EXPECT of them. Sorry but Ive recently, out of desperation, had to find MY OWN SOLUTION to a long standing and potentially life threatening condition that my GP and one HOSPITAL CONSULTANT couldnt be bothered to look into further and failed to discover the cause and prescribe effective treatment for. I was told by one that I didnt fit their criteria and I was told by another that while she had great sympathy for me (which I wasnt asking for), she simply didnt know where else to send me and that I just had to put up with it. That same doctor was very interested in my diabetes (was she getting a bonus for that interest) and getting me to take statins even though they made me ill, yet she wasnt interested in me having to dial 999 every few weeks because I was in anaphylaxis! If I found out either of those two so called doctors were earning bonuses on top of their very handsome salaries while I was having to lose pay (and possibly life) because I had to go and spend hours in resuscitation in A & E while other doctors QUESTION ME on what Im allergic to, what causes my condition etc ... believe me, there will be HELL TO PAY, NOT DOCTORS! How about we pay doctors on the amount of patients they actually CURE or whose LIVES ARE IMPROVED BY THE CORRECT DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT. Lets stop paying doctors simply for the privilege of their title, for pushing certain medications because theyre flavour of the month, for signing forms that are necessary to patients welfare, lets actually pay them by RESULTS. I want a doctor who ACTUALLY WANTS TO BE A DOCTOR, not someone who went into the profession because the prestige and the pay were excellent. telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/9475526/Doctors-bonus-schemes-may-do-more-harm-than-good.html
