DRUM TRACK OF THE DAY: The New Year by Death Cab For Cutie featuring Jason McGerr Yesterdays holiday has definitely inspired us to post this track from Death Cabs 2003 release, Transatlanticism, which marks the indie rock bands first album with Jason McGerr as their drummer. The New Year opens Transatlanticism setting the tone for the entire record and introducing the listener to Jason McGerrs refreshing style of drumming. McGerr could have easily laid down an obvious 2 & 4 backbeat during the songs intro but instead chooses to play something far more interesting and musically appropriate. This of course is a signature trademark of McGerrs approach to drumming that he consistently applies to every song on which he plays. Jason McGerr is one of those drummers who beautifully employs finesse, musicality, space, and a great lively feel to create the perfect drum part. Enjoy The New Year!
