DUTA PRESS RELEASE 5.11.14 The DUTA condemns the behaviour of the Principal of Swami Shraddhanand College and demands his immediate removal. With the criminal denial of salaries to six ad-hoc teachers for over three months, the college is witnessing an unprecedented crisis of lawlessness, whereby the careers of hundreds of students is in danger, since their internal assessment cannot be calculated. The DUTA expresses complete solidarity with the Staff Association in their struggle for justice and demands that the Governing Body intervene effectively in the matter. If the Principal is not paying the salaries despite clear instructions from the Chairperson, he should be suspended/sent on leave and the seniormost eligible teacher should be appointed Officiating Principal, so that the crisis is resolved at the earliest. Swami Shraddhanand College Teachers, Karamharis and Students observe “Black Day”, Join Dharna in large numbers. Hundreds of Students and Karamcharis joined the 5 week long Protest–Dharna of Swami Shraddhanand College Teachers Association,(being held along with Classes),and jointly condemned the callous, irresponsible and stubborn attitude of the Principal of the College for his illegal act of not releasing the salaries of the 6 Ad-hoc Teachers due to which more than 500 students are likely to suffer as their “Internal Assessment” markings can-not be done. The teachers, students and Karamcharis raised slogans against the Principal demanding his removal and salaries for the 6 Ad-hoc Teachers. The College is witnessing worst kind of turmoil and problems as the Principal is refusing to listen to the advice of the Chairman, Governing Body Prof Roop Lal to take steps to sort out this problem created by his own illegal and manipulative actions. In order to intensify the agitation, the Association had given a Call to the Students Union and the Karamchari Union of the College to join the ongoing Teachers Dharna (Sit-in) from Wednesday, the 5th November, 2014, and observe it as a Black Day. The Delhi University Students Union, the Delhi University Teachers Association and various Teachers and Students Organisations including ABVP, NSUI, AISA, INSO et al will join the Dharna at Swami Shraddhanand College on Friday, the 7th November, 2014. The Teachers Association, on Dharna, along with taking classes also for more than five weeks now against non-payment of Salaries to Ad-hoc Teachers, have said that they will continue the protest till justice is done.
