Daily Comic Book Force Update: It is time for me to continue with the Easter eggs in Guardians of the Galaxy. The thirty-first one is Denarian Saal. Saal is played by Peter Serafinowicz. The characters full name is unknown as Denarian is his Nova rank. In the comics, Garthan Saal was a member of the Nova Corps and was one of the few Xandarians who survived the destruction of Xandar at Nebulas hands. Saal became the character known as Nova Omega. The thirty-second one is Rhomann Dey. On screen the character is played by John C. Reilly. In the comics, he was the leader of the Nova Corps and he was one of the few survivors after the warlord Zorr devastated Xandar. The attack killed most of the population of the planet, including Dey’s wife and children. The ending montage showing Dey embrace his family might also be an inside reference to this comic book story line. The thirty-third one is Nova. We saw the Nova Corps in the film but we did not see Nova, despite a plan once being in place to feature him in the movie, rumoured to have been played by Nathan Fillion. However, now concept art has been revealed of what the movie version of Nova would have looked like in the film. Read more about that here: slashfilm/nova-concept-art/. Generally Nova is a uniformed human man, Richard Rider, who is buffed up by power and authority. Now we’ve got Nova concept art, detailing one idea for his on-screen incarnation. The thirty-fourth one is Broker. He is played by Christopher Fairbank and is one of the smaller characters from Marvel, first debuting in Force Works #15. The final and thirty-fifth one is Rocket Raccoons back-story. In the film, Star-Lord notices Rocket Raccoon’s back is scarred and features all sorts of weird implants. In a later scene, a drunk Rocket yells about being torn apart and being genetically experimented on. All of this is part of the character’s back-story, which also appears in the comic books. Rocket was one of many animals that were genetically manipulated to become bipedal caretakers for the insane on the planet Halfworld in the Keystone Quadrant. Rocket became the Halfworld’s chief law officer, protecting the colony against threats from the outside galaxy. Rocket left the abandoned colony with his first mate Wal Russ (a talking walrus).
