Daily Devotional ~ Sept 4 Still Standing! “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” Revelation 3:20 We recognize that Jesus is Still Standing by the very existence of His Church and from their wonderful preservation; for it is wholly inconceivable, how the churches, ministers, and ordinances should be supported and preserved without it, amidst such hosts of powerful and enraged enemies. If Christ were not among them, they had certainly been swallowed up long ago. It is he who holds the stars in his right hand. Re 2:1 His walking among the seven golden candlesticks is their best security. The burning bush is a rare emblem to open this mystery; the bush burned with fire, but was not consumed. Ex 3:3 The bush was a resemblance of the church of God in Egypt, their terrible persecution reflected in the flames upon it were; the wonder that no ashes appeared despite those terrible flames spoke to the fact that God was in the bush just as Jesus Christ is Still Standing in the midst of His people. By virtue of His Still Standing we are still standing this day in the enjoyment of gospel liberty, as no society of men in the world have such security as the church has on this account. The mightiest of all the monarchies to ever live have been overturned as no human policies nor human power could preserve them; but the church is still preserved for today and shall ever be, by virtue of that gracious promise He made to His people, “For I am with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee: though I make a full end of all nations whither I have scattered thee, yet will I not make a full end of thee:." Jeremiah 30:11 Babylonian, Persian, and Grecian monarchies have destroyed and ruined one another but still the Church of Christ lifts up its head, and beholds their ruin for our Lord is Still Standing. Because Jesus is Still Standing, He expects His people to stand as well: Ephesians. 6:13; Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Because He lives, we live, because He stands, we stand.
