Daily Dose of Knowledge - My rescue cat, Scooter, was the topic of an article on cat dandruff (link below). Turns out his dry skin was because he was not the most diligent groomer. My female cats groom incessantly and dont have issues with dry, flaky skin. I have an overweight boy kitty, however, who has really dry skin on his back and needs a good brushing several times a week to remove the extra hair he cant get to. In addition to weight, the age of a cat is also a factor as less flexible cats cannot groom as effectively. You may find the hair looking less shiny and not laying smoothly or clumps of hair coming off when rubbing. You may also see flakes start to appear. There are many grooming brushes available so finding one your cat likes shouldnt be a problem. If you are worried about your cat, for any reason, always check with your veterinarian. Dry skin, problems grooming and coat quality can be signs of illness and should not be overlooked. ehow/how_4472842_that-has-dandruff-bad-hair.html
