Daily Message for January 20, 2014 From Rev. Ed Townley Manchester, CT A REFUGE WITHIN The ancient author of the 46th Psalm speaks to us today with contemporary power. “God is our refuge and our strength,” he writes, “a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change.” Sometimes it seems that we are asked on a daily basis to change our attitudes, our habits, our consciousness – and yes, to change the Planet Earth on which we live. Is there any guidance, any help to be found as we try not to resist change and not to fear the unknown? There is. The same 46th Psalm contains the response of the Lord of our Being, and one of the greatest affirmations in the entire Bible: “Be still, and know that I am God.” “I am” is the name God gave Moses as he stood before the burning bush. “I am” is the way in which Jesus expressed his own Christ consciousness – claiming nothing unique for himself, but rather describing the Christ power that lives in each and all of us. If we are still, and know that the very “I am” of our being is the essence and expression of God, there is nothing to fear, no matter how dramatically the world may be changing around us. Today I rest calmly in the awareness of God within me. I am still, and centered, fearlessly accepting of change within me, and change in the world around me. Thank you, God!
