Daisy - Divine intervention?. . . . . . .worth the read. I met Marc on Match dot com. We had one really nice date. (But, He was not a great emailer.) We knew where each other lived and one day I stopped over to deliver a beefhide treat for his dog. I stood on the concrete stairs outside his home, met his beautiful dog (arent they all), and quickly excused myself as not wanting to invade his day. (That is where Marcs story ends and another one begins.) I got into my CRV and drove up the street and took a left. I drove about three blocks when I spotted some sort of boxer mix...and like any 6 year old in the body of a 48 year old woman I pulled over, grabbed one of my rescue business cards, and asked the young woman (Licia) outside having a cigarette, Can I pet your puppy. Jellybean was an american bulldog (tall - looked more like a boxer mix to my eyes). A big mushy dog. . . young and very trusting. . . .and very jumpy! The woman asked if I was there to see Sally? No, I am simply dog crazy and when I saw your dog I just had to stop and say hi. Having read my business card the woman asked, you specialize in fostering seniors? I answered yes and tried to start my spiel about all of the beautiful seniors I had helped. She interrupted, Oh you have to come and talk to Sally. So, into the house we went! Sally was sitting in a recliner and a petite yellow lab laying next to her got up to greet me...Daisy. Sally told me that she was going to be moving into a senior living community due to the awful pain in her feet and not be able to take care of her home anymore. She had been fretting about what to do with Daisy? I recommended our local humane shelter. Sally didnt want to see Daisy in a cage. She mentioned one local group of rescuers which I quickly warned against. She even mentioned that she had thought of euthanasia. [Oh, bye the way, Daisy is mostly blind. Born with cataracts, the breeder was going to put her down. Sally and her husband saved the little runt Daisy.] At some point in the conversation 4 year old Jellybean came running in from outside and she & 10 year old Daisy started to wrestle on the floor. Daisy was a push over. Never growled at anyone in her life and had been the worlds best dog. No really! The stories Sally shared were touching...Daisy was a gentle, loving, obedient dog who only wanted to give and receive Love. Those of you who know me too well know how this story ends. . .Daisy is now a member of my pack. But there is more to tell. Sallys plan was to drop off Daisy and never look back nor come back. It is just too hard on me, Sally cried. I and Licia encouraged her to keep an open mind and see how she felt after the big move was over and her life had settled down a bit. Dog Lovers, You KNOW what happened next! It took less than a week after the big move for Sally to call and tell me that she thought she wanted to stop over...that she was building up the courage for a visit. I kept the invite wide open...she knew when I worked and when I was off. I told her, Just call to make sure I am home, or look in the backyard to see if we are playing outside. Now, guess who comes over for a visit 1 - 2 times weekly? Yes, the first visit WAS very hard...both she and Daisy were crying. But with each visit after that it has gotten easier for both of them. We sit and chat...mostly about how dogs have touched our lives. She shares stories of Daisy from years ago...obedient without training. And I pull out pictures of the springers & adopters I have helped and the people I have been blessed to meet...people like her! Last week together we sang a song we both knew: Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I am crazy oh for the love of you. It wont be a stylish marriage, I cant afford a carriage. But youll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two. A moment forever locked in my mind. I Believe God made the match with Marc for the sheer purpose of putting me in that neighborhood. And Licia was 45 minutes late getting home from work on that particular day that I drove by. (A fluke?) Sally and I both feel God had his hand in all of it. Mr. match was never meant to be. It was all planned out for Daisy. Be open to Blessings. . .Let your heart lead you. . . It is not easy because we never know in what form a blessing will come, but come they do!
