Dalida the Egyptian Yolanda Cristina Gigliotti was born in Cairo in January 17, 1933. Her family emigrated from Italy, lived in the district of Shubra . Her mother was a dressmaker and her father first violinist at the Cairo Opera House where she often went and listen to him. He died when she was only 12 years ... But another tragedy struck her earlier ...She suffered an eye viral infection as a 10-month old baby and the infection gradually worsened so that by the age of 4, the young girl had already undergone two serious operations.The virus handicapped her whole life. So she dreamt of becoming an actress , her religious school fellows of Shubra gave her the nickname foureyes ! She then worked in a fashion house where she became a model. She won several beauty contests to become at the beginning of her long career : Miss Egypt 1954 She acted in several B movies then to launch her career , decided to go to Paris . She will experience fame, sorrow , depression ... and international fame . Her return in the 70s , to Egypt gave her the idea to sing in Arabic. She repeated, 78, an Egyptian folklore song by Salma Ya Salama . The launch takes place in France and the Middle East. Her success was staggering. This song will welcome President Sadat during his trip to Israel in November 1977 . In 1986, Youssef Chahine offers her a magnificent role in The Sixth Day she sang , poignantly , as a washerwoman named Saddika . However, many dramas that she had to face removed any desire to live. She chose to give herself the death in May 3, 1987 in Paris .
