Dan Learned, Washington, Ill These things have been hard for me: 1- My inability to protect Carols heart from a big hurt, as the house we dreamed about, designed, and raised our kids in, was ruined 2- My inability to protect my children from seeing something that even I personally wasnt prepared for ... let alone a teen or younger. 3- Accepting help. On the 1st morning, we went to Crossroads Church for a hot breakfast. I showed up with a ball cap on my unshowered head. Many of my friends were wearing nametags and serving us. Ouch ... that was a tough pill to swallow. I sobbed. No one saw me, did they? Later I signed up for a nametag. Got one. 4- Accepting help. Today we visited the Distribution Center at Sunnyland Plaza. Wow. Wow. Wow. A bunch of people gathered a remarkable amount of supplies that our families in Washington need. Everything you could find in a kitchen or bathroom. Its for affected people. Its for those helping/hosting them. Its for those who will take it to those in need. SEND PEOPLE THERE. Or take them with you. I resisted because Im proud. Did you know the Bible says God opposes the proud? ... Hmmmm ... lets see ... opposition to God or visit the FREE distribution center? Okay. Im in. We went. What lovely people and what a wonderful mini-Walmart theyve established. Go there. Its for us. 5- Accepting help. People are handing us free food, free coffee, free gift cards, free cash, free free ... Every time it happens, I want to politely decline. Did I mention that Im proud? Did I mention Gods words on pride? 6- Admitting that accepting help is hard for me. Okay, so Ive taken step one. Please pray that the people of Washington, Pekin and more will stop by this Distribution Center and be blessed. I was. DanL
