David Brainerd often set apart days for fasting: 2 Cor. 11:27,28 ...in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness--besides the other things, what comes upon me daily; my deep concern for all the churches. I set apart this day for fasting and prayer to God for His grace; especially to prepare me for the work of the ministry; to give me divine aid and direction, in my preparations for that great work; and in His own time to send me into His harvest.... Brainerd also recognized the need to live in right relationship with the people around him: Eph. 4:32 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another even as God in Christ forgave you. Oh, it is a sweet disposition, heartily to forgive all injuries done to us; to wish our greatest enemies as well as we do our own souls.
