Dawn broke free of night in a molten golden burst of Grandfather Suns light. And just above his fiery eye flew an eagle formed by clouds in the sky. A day of blessings and I watched the essence spread, down and across the rivers bed. As it touched the waters they arose in a mist, responding to the mornings kiss....thats when I heard a familiar hiss. I looked all around but he was nowhere in sight, not perched on the bluffs nor up in flight. Where could he possibly be? Was he wearing a cloak of invisibility? Thats when he popped into view, and I had to laugh, Well, will you look at you?! Youve made yourself so very small, I would likely not have noticed you at all. What are you up to now my little friend? What purpose have you in shrinking to the size of my hand? Green Dragon hissed and flicked his tongue, flapped his wings and gave me a smile...a very crooked one. I thought if I could reducccce my ssssize, not only would it be a ssssssurprissse, but perhapssss youd allow me to accompany you today...I would fit in your pocket or pursssssse wouldnt you say? I chucked and nodded, What a novel idea, Id love that very much. But youll need to behave yourself, and Ill need to be sure you dont get crushed. He wrinkled up his little snout and then let three smoke rings out. Ill be fine, theres no crushing for me, Im still as strong as ever, you see? It doesnt matter if Im large or small, no, for a Dragon that doesnt matter at all. And if I need to fly away, people will find it strange to see a bat during the day. They wouldnt believe that Dragons exist so the illusion theyd cast and who I truly am would be missed. So now I know that this spell works well and I can be with you in this manner as well. He seemed delighted with himself, and his little plan. I giggled again and nodded, his little talons were tickling the palm of my hand. Just then there came a stirring to the air, the Wizard sent a vision and his smiling face appeared. So, old friend, I must ask, did you give my Dragon the shrinking task? He shook his head with a glint in his eye, Who me? Would I do that? No, not I. For some reason I couldnt accept that he was so innocent. Well then, I suspect it was you from whom his spell was lent. Those dancing eyes of my friend began to glisten even more. Well it was that or put up with him napping beside me on the floor...have you ever heard a Dragon snore? We both laughed and he added in Ill be with your shortly, my friend. Ive a couple things I must do before I join the rest of you. Then he vanished as simply as hed come, and my attention went back to this little one. Very well, well see how it goes. But you must be careful not to let yourself show. It would be very hard to explain a wee Dragon that was semi-tame. And you must promise to behave, or I *will* send you back to the crystal cave. No mischief from you, promise me. He nodded so excitedly. Well see, I said, well see. You are being tested now as to how youll accompany me. I know your tricks and I know your cunning, we cant have people screaming and running. So behave yourself and well do fine, as long as you keep your manners in mind. I can do that and yesssssss, I will promisssssse you I guessss. I had visions of him in my mind, poking his head out of my pocket to see what he might find. Hes such a curious little (?) beast, Id have to fill my purse with brimstone treats...best to keep him occupied and hidden from others prying eyes. Oh my Stars Above, I wasnt expecting this. Then he softened my worries for a moment when he gave me a little Dragon kiss. Do I trust that hell behave? Friends, I wasnt born yesterday...and the smile on the Wizards face told me he knew my hands would be well occupied, its not everyday theres a little Dragon coming along for the ride. Well see you when you get here, weve prayers and blessings to weave. There are, in this world, so many countless needs. And the work we do, the gifts that we conceive, well cast them to Wind and Water...trusting theyll be well received. Brunch afterwards of course, lets do a picnic in the forest glen. Theres lots of room there for the woodland critters, and our Elvin friends. :)
