Day 102 Jack had a great night on low flow. When we arrived this - TopicsExpress

Day 102 Jack had a great night on low flow. When we arrived this morning Jack was down to 50% oxygen requirement. On their rounds the doctors said they were really happy with Jacks progress and especially pleased that he was coping so well on low flow. The doctor took a moment to do some calculations then told us that the 50% oxygen requirement Jack was on is equivalent to 24% on optiflow. Somehow it is different, which we didnt realise. This is excellent news as he was on 21% to 24% when he was on optiflow, but also had the added pressures. So it is great to know he is doing so well with the change to low flow. The doctors discussed us heading to Nelson on Monday (at 8am) but the consultant said he hasnt contacted the doctors there yet, I have no idea what this means for us. No one else has mentioned us going home, except me obviously, Im telling everyone I see!! Jack wasnt that interested in breastfeeding is morning, he just seemed really sleepy. So we gave him a 60 ml top up. This afternoon Jack was more awake and feed really well. After 45 minutes he moved his head aside and milk just poured out of his mouth and all over me. I got a real fright. He had obviously gorged himself and didnt stop when he was full. Last night he feed for 45 minutes and needed three top ups but tonight after 45 minutes he is spewing. That is his first proper spew. I realised today that no one had mentioned burping him. You get so used to being told not to move the babies after feeding to avoid spilling, its hard to break these habits. So I started doing this and he is giving a good burp each time and probably making him feel better. Mart and I had our last night together in Wellington tonight. We decided to go to the movies and try the Gold Lounge, a first for both of us. We sat in a lovely comfy lazy boy and had a pizza with the movie. It was lovely treat. All weekend Ive been thinking of everything being our last time. I am so excited about going home but after such a long time, the thought of finally leaving is so very strange. Its actually quite hard to explain. Life here has become the norm. I have got into such a routine I cant imagine what its going to be like back in Nelson and leaving Jack in hospital each night while I go home. I am looking forward to hopefully sleeping again when I do get home. Since Jack had is laser surgery, Ive had very little sleep each night. Last night I think I got about four hours so Ive been terribly tired today.
