Day 22: The Centrality of the Cross It is told that once a missionary told the story of Jesus in an Indian village. Afterwards he showed the life of Christ in lantern slides thrown against the white-washed wall of a house. Suddenly when the slide of the Cross appeared on the wall one man rose from the audience and ran forward. Come down from that Cross, Son of God, he cried. I, not You, should be hanging there! It was your sin and my sin that pierced Him. He truly was and is the Lamb Who takes away your sin, my sin. So why are you carrying your own sins when He has bore them all for you? Dont live in condemnation and guilt and darkness! He has the power to set you free! In fact, only His Name can save us! Scripture declares this truth: He is faithful to do it! He alone is just to do it! Do what? To forgive you of your trespasses against God and to not only forgive but bleach-clean you from your past sins! (1 John 1) Hes faithful! Hes just because He has said it! The Cross stands as the centre of all history. It is there declaring His love, His justice, His goodwill, His supremacy over hatred and evil and brokenness! He didnt stay in the grave for on the third day, according to eyewitnesses and historical scrutiny, He rose up to life as prophesied by the ancient prophets. The Cross has within it the power to save! Do you need to be saved from your past, from the stain of your wrong choices? Do you want to experience His love and forgiveness and thus never have to face the wrath and justice that rests over every human being due to the fact that weve each fallen short of the glory of God? Then come to that Cross in faith. If you call upon the Name of Jesus, youll be saved! Why is this necessary? Because we must personally enter into relationship with Him. We must say to Jesus, I acknowledge what You did in dying in my place and being raised to life the third day as a work on my behalf! He will come and begin to live in you. This isnt religion were talking about. Its a blood transfusion--His blood bringing life to your deadness! And its given as a gift from God. And like all gifts, the only way to receive a gift *is* to receive it! So what are you waiting for? Dont let fear stop you. As I said, this is a life transfer.
