Day 25: Be Slow to Judge, Quick to Forgive. “What you have seen - TopicsExpress

Day 25: Be Slow to Judge, Quick to Forgive. “What you have seen with your eyes do not bring hastily to court, for what will you do in the end if your neighbor puts you to shame? Proverbs 25:8 Have you noticed how easy it is for us to quickly judge one another? You see an offense, whether aimed at you or at another person, and you assume you know the circumstances that surround whatever is being said or done. We are so quick to put in our two cents without first understanding the situation. We are not always “quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger” as instructed in James 1:19. Most often, it’s the opposite – we are slow to hear, quick to speak, and quick to get angry. And we become the judges of world. The truth is that things aren’t always what they seem. Sometimes, what you see is not what you think you see. Falsely accusing, or judging, one another is a serious matter. It’s not that we intentionally make false judgments. Most likely, we believe that our assumptions are correct. We trust our instincts. We trust what we see and know. Unfortunately, sometimes our instincts are wrong. Sometimes, we jump to conclusions before we get all the facts. John 7:24 warns us“Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”How do we do that? First of all, we need to realizing that “there is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy.”(James 4:12) God is the ultimate Judge who will pass the final sentence on every one of us. So “who are we to judge?”Secondly, we need to remember that “with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye?” (Matthew 7:2-4) We are all guilty. Before passing judgment on your neighbor, take a good look at your own life. You are not perfect. “Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things.” (Romans 2:1) Be very careful of judging others, or you might get caught in your own trap. Our best response to an offense is to offer forgiveness, not judgment. As Luke 6:37 says, “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.”The next time you witness an offense, be slow to judge and be quick to forgive. dailytimewithgod/proverbs/day-25-be-slow-to-judge-quick-to-forgive/
