Day 5. 147 miles. 6000 climbing. Over 10 hours. Wow. What a day. It started with a long 50 mile drag from Shrewsbury to Hereford. Nice countryside but not great roads for cycling. A few cheeky hills in the way added some suffering but overall we made good time of the morning. In Hereford we were met by our biggest fan, JB. He even joined us on his bike for an hour or so, enjoying the smaller lanes south of Hereford. Thanks for the support JB. From Monmouth we hit the Wye Valley and its leafy A roads down to the Severn Bridge. From there we bypass Bristol before hitting the Somerset levels. Overall a slowish day, with lots of rolling hills. This always splits the group as the younger spritly lads (and Foddy) usually race ahead whereas on the flat we use the drafting of the leaders to make good time. The wind picked up from the SW in the afternoon, unfortunately bringing tomorrows weather I suspect. Its forecast for a lot of rain, which along with over 10,000 of climbing means that tomorrow will be messy. At this stage were all carrying a fair few injuries... Mostly knees, ankles, backs. Lets hope they hold!
