Day six Lie in this morning. Breakfast at 7.15. And we all got - TopicsExpress

Day six Lie in this morning. Breakfast at 7.15. And we all got there early! We left at the same time as the Taiwanese saga tour, and our boat driver raced them down the river, giving us our second shower of the day, as he ploughed fast round corners and across the wake of other boats. Have been much amused by the taiwanese, who seemed to specialise in not doing as they had been told! This resulted in a buffalo stampede at meal times, and a couple of them getting lost in the forest when they left their guide. But the highlight was the one with a horrendous snore and throat clearing habit which kept several of our party awake throughout the night. They are on the same flight as us, so I shall continue to be amused. Just hope the expectorator isnt doing the inca trail with us, or we might join forces and shove him off a cliff. The airport at Puerto Maldonado was an experience. A complete free for all, with several minibuses arriving at once. The hold baggage was inspected by hand. Thank god my dirty knickers were in my hand baggage, which was Xrayed as normal. It was steaming hot, however I found fizzy pop and delicious salted plantain chips, which taste a bit like crisps, so that helped replenish the loss of salt and fluid during the wait. The airport comes complete with air conditioning made up of half walls, and some slowly rotating ceiling fans. Slight delay to the flight, but we arrived in cusco where it has proved to be a more reasonable temperature. Hot when we got here, but quite cool by 5 pm. Everyone has been given coca tea, and told to drink plenty of it as well as 4-6 litres of fluid a day. I hope there are lots of loos about town. Everyone seems to have altitude sickness, or laziness in one case (vinnie), so I went for a little potter around the local area. Of course it was full of people touting goods, but they werent pushy, so I avoided having to have a lady massage!! Or buy a picture. There are women and children wandering around in traditional dress carrying baby llamas. I am still trying to pluck up courage to eat a guinea pig. One restaurant had a picture of a whole roasted one - I am trying to find one that is already cut into joints so I dont have to look at its face and toes. Apparently they taste horrible, but I do feel a need to tick them off my list.
