#DayOfWisdom Discrimination is not naturally negative. In fact, each of us, individuals needs it. - Yo-Rai The Eyes of Discrimination Philosophy under:: Realistic Optimism Philosophy Many of us especially in the Person with Disability sector always looks at discrimination negatively. this is because common masses have imprinted in their minds the wrong definition of it. Identifying, recognizing and distinguishing a certain characteristic different or unique from the rest in a group. this is the real meaning of the word discrimination and nothing more... nothing less. and not: negative assaults or approach of a group of people towards an individual with an unusual characteristic. therefore, identifying a persons uniqueness different from the rest is already discrimination. like for an instance, identifying a visually impaired child in a class of regular student. others say discrimination must be avoided and should never be done towards that different individual. but, using the example above, without discrimination, that blind student will not be given brailled books to read instead, printed copies willl be handed to hhim. why would the teacher give him braille books if the teacher is not discriminating the uniqueness of that child from the rest? is it right? of course not. then positive discrimination must be developed. not only for the issue of person with disabilities but also for the day to day life of each individual. discriminating which is the right taste to be paired with coffee: sweet pancakes or sour green mangoes. discriminating which route to ride on to school in the midst of bunch of vehicles in a traffic jam. discriminating who is your teacher and who is your classmates in the classroom. therefore, again, discrimination is not really bad at all. its just on how a person uses it towards someone. with this, we must learn how to use it and develop it for our own good and for others.
