Dear Climate.gov fans and followers, We are really pleased - TopicsExpress

Dear Climate.gov fans and followers, We are really pleased that more and more people are visiting us, reading our posts, and sharing them with friends. And you wouldn’t believe how happy it makes us when you take the time to share a reaction—or, the absolute best thing ever, to ask a follow-up question!—to an image or story we share. Less awesome is when people post comments that are off-topic, mean-spirited, stubbornly unscientific, or contain profanity. Then we all feel discouraged that after working so hard to come up with something entertaining, educational, scientifically sound, and easy-to-understand, all we managed to do was stir up the kind of squabbling that makes people avoid talking about climate altogether. There seems to have been a bit more of that kind of thing happening than usual, so those of us who moderate the NOAA Climate.gov Facebook page want to take a moment to remind folks to read our comments/participation policy and be aware of the consequences of violating it. Specifically, comments and replies must be on topic, must not perpetuate false or misleading information about the state of scientific knowledge about climate science, and shouldn’t contain profanity or name-calling. • “On topic” means if we post about mountain glacier retreat, we expect comments and questions about mountain glacier retreat, and we may delete comments that have nothing to do with glaciers. • “False or misleading” means the repetition of myths, misconceptions, etc, that have been answered or explained in various scientifically credible venues, such as our own Global Warming FAQ page (climate.gov/news-features/understanding-climate/global-warming-frequently-asked-questions), or other places. For more detail on our participation and comments policy, please see our “About” page: https://facebook/NOAAClimateGov/info
