#rideoftheweek before we start on the SRT-4, lets do a little history of the Dodge Caliber. Chrysler was on a quest for global expansion and the Caliber was one of Dodges first modern offerings in Europe and Asian markets such as /japan and Singapore as it established new distribution channels there. in 2008, it was introduced to China as Dodges second modern vehicle in that market. Last time you could see a new dodge being sold in China was during the WWII era. It also marked the return of Dodge brand to Australia, for the first time since the 1970s. The Caliber SRT-4 model was introduced at the Chicago auto show in February 2006. It was the replacement for the original Neon based SRT-4 which were produced by Chryslers Street and Racing Technology group .Designed to compete with other Hatchbacks such as Volkswagen GTI and the Mazdaspeed 3. The 2.4 litre I4 was jointly designed by Chrysler, Mitsubishi and Hyundai. It featured a dual variable valve timing (DVVT) and a Mitsubishi TD04HLS45-20 turbo. The DVVT is the process of altering the timing of a valve lift event. This system is often used to improve performance, fuel economy or emissions. Chrysler claimed a horsepower rating of 285 and 265 lb-ft of torque. Edmunds put these numbers to the test on a chassis dyno and obtained 281 HP and 261 lb-ft of torque. Edmunds concluded that with these numbers, The Caliber SRT was putting more power to the road then cars costing twice the sticker price of the Caliber SRT. This front wheel drive powerhouse was in need of a transmission that was capable of taking the strain a 300 HP FWD car could deliver. The transmission of choice was the German built Getrag 6 speed. The Getrag has also been used in the Supra MKIV and Z06 Corvette. For best handling, Macpherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear suspension came straight out of the factory. The CSRT also needed good stopping power. The large 13.4 vented disc brake from the Dodge Charger police pack whit dual piston calipers and single piston rear 11.9 brake. Less then 5500 of these fast grocery-getter were produced from 2007 to 2009. Considering how bulky and top heavy the Caliber is, SRT brought the CSRT to the wind tunnel to optimize aerodynamic lift force at the front and rear axles at speed. The unique rear fascia features lower vertical strakes that direct under body airflow out through the rear, contributing to more stability. It is 60% larger then the regular Caliber rear spoiler and is tuned for smoother airflow and downforce while maximising the rear view. This SRT-4 has a few additions by the owner to help deliver the extra power, handling and personal look it needed. Lets start with the go fast goods. The Mopar stage 1 PCM with boost by gear increase the boost to 15 PSI. The Mopar cold air intake and catless downpipe, redefines the sound and power of this mini wagon. The blow-off plate reminds on-lookers that this is not your regular run of the mill Caliber. The fully adjustable BC coilovers set the stance while the Modern Performance strut bar helps to keep that torque steer under control. On the cosmetic side of things, a full custom leather interior was designed and installed by Chip Customs. Under the hood we got some artwork in form of air brush by Air Ink and Devil Tail Graphics whit a custom coil pac cover. As for exterior, The black PXR rims, tinted taillights and Oracle headlights are the perfect finishing touch. Custom Mopar and SRT badges designed by srtbadges blend in well with this amazing boosted Mopar. With a little over 300 HP, this little rocket with the cargo space to maneuver a small family, sure packs a punch and is a blast to drive and yet can remain fuel efficient. #pacificrides #rideoftheweek #calibersrt4 #dodge #srt4 #srt4junkies #mopar #wikkedkustomz #boost #boostnation #gema
