Dear Community Leaders, Making a masjid into a hangout place for the youth is great. But hoping that it will make them religious and learned is like sending someone to Mecca and expecting them to come back learned and religious. Unless there are specific programs that help mentor, follow up and deal with problems of the youth, you are spinning your wheels. But most importantly, the masjid is not a hospital for youth problems. Dont be hard on yourself when you feel that some youth are not responding. The problem is in their homes. Parenting starts with the family and not the Shaykh/Youth Director.
