Dear Dallas Safari Club EBOLA We understand that the spread of Ebola in West Africa is causing some alarm and despondency and fear of travel to Southern Africa. We would like to advise you of what precautions the Zimbabwe Health Authorities have put in place to avoid this disease coming to Zimbabwe. I attach the notice we have circulated to ALL our Hunting and Tourism Operators. You will note that in fact Zimbabwe is screening all arrivals – which I understand is more than USA or Britain are doing according to Sky News. All suspects are isolated and blood samples sent to Johannesburg. The results can be received within 24 hours. If they return negative the suspect is released or if it should turn out to be positive the facilities and trained personnel are ready to deal with it in line with the World Health Organisation procedures laid down. Our Health Facilities are organized and we have teams, trained by WHO, to deal with the eventuality of a positive case of Ebola arriving in Zimbabwe. In fact USA and Europe have more chance of getting Ebola than Zimbabwe since numerous flights and connections fly into those countries than fly into Zimbabwe these days. Our population do not traditionally eat bats or monkeys in Zimbabwe, and furthermore no case of Ebola in animals has ever been found in Zimbabwe. We trust that this will allay any fears of your members. If you require further information please do not hesitate to contact us. Yours sincerely Sally Bown Admin. officer SOAZ/ZPHGA
