Dear Facebook Ohana n Friends: BEWARE CRAIGSLIST SCAM Please beware a scam going out on craigslist for houses to rent that do not belong to the person posting the ad. Here are some red flags: 1:) They tell you that you can take a look at the home from the outside and say you can make an appointment. They normally will meet you with a key to show you the home 2:) They claim they live abroad and dont use realty agencies or they claim they are missionaries abroad. 3:) They send an application that does not seem right asking for photographs of the whole family children included 4:) They ask you to wire them the first months rent and deposit. You should always be able to meet with the owner or realty agent to discuss details and payment. They also should have a receipt. 5:) They should have their contact info available. Never make any decisions on the exclusively over phone or email. NEVER SEND ANY INFO ONLINE. 6:) Never send any money wireless or over paypal 7:) Always take someone with experience with you if you meet with a potential homeowner/occupant (Especially women) 8:) Never send Photo Pictures of you or your children. Photo I.Ds are usually requested for the owner to verify you. Please be careful people. These types of con artist take advantage of people desperate to find a rental and make off with your money, steal your identity, or maybe use your info and pictures inappropriately.
