Dear Family & Friends: Here is the latest news on Mother. The regular evaluation of her aorta valve reveals it is holding stable at 64% loss of function. I know it does not sound good, seeing roughly 2/3 of the aorta is not functioning, but we feel thankful and amazed there is no further deterioration. Over the last 3 and ½ months she has made 4 trips to the ER, with 2 hospital admissions. Mother really knows how to keep life exciting, or at the very least challenging. The new wrinkle in her health came when she split a molar right up the middle, to the root. Her local Dentist will not touch it due to her heart condition. A local Oral Surgeon deferred, saying she needs a surgeon near her Cardiologist. So, Mother is now with Dr. Terry Taylor, an Oral Surgeon at Methodist Hospital. The agreed plan, by all her Doctors: oral surgery, December 3, at Methodist Hospital. They want her in an O.R. with an Anesthesiologist monitoring her heart. They want a general anesthesia used to keep the heart calm. Barring any complications, she should be released within a day. We ask for your prayers. Knowing to use a general anesthesia on a patient with Mother’s heart problems and age will raise her overall risk with surgery, we face a greater risk by doing nothing, which will lead to infection and the complications associated with it. Clarity can make the process for decisions easier. While we may not know what the future holds, we can know who holds the future. The Lord has a purpose and a plan. Thank you for continuing with us as we make this journey, for your love, support, encouragement and most of all your prayers. May the peace of the Lord be with you, Gay Riggs Esther 4:14 “Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” (NKJV)
