Dear Governor Elechi “How did things get this way?” you - TopicsExpress

Dear Governor Elechi “How did things get this way?” you are now staring into the exhausting, lonely abyss that is your remaining months of your job as a Governor of Ebonyi state. You came in on the soaring wings of hope in 2007; the election that brought you to power earned you an opportunity to demonstrate your administrative prowess gained when you were a district officer during the colonial days and variously a commissioner during the post-civil war era. Today, you stand as among the weakest, having suffered one of the worst reversals of political fortunes in Ebonyi state So many Eboyians yearned for you to succeed. Many who yearned for your success have turned on you. They are, at best, indifferent to you now. Many, many more have turned toxically against you especially your Deputy who incidentally your best student in your about- to -end administration. If you were inclined toward introspection, you might ask yourself, “How did things get this way?” Well, your Excellency, the answer is simple: You made yourself a governor for a selected few. Negotiation and compromise are impossible in your administration because you are always sure you are the smartest person in Ebonyi politics. Learning from the past is awkward for you since you believe history began with your own arrival. For a man of towering arrogance like you, submitting yourself to the balance of powers and the concept of rule of law is truly tiresome --------even when your personal interest is repugnant natural justice, equity and good conscience or even against public policy. Your administration turned the vulnerable and impoverished people of the state that really voted you into power to modern-day biblical Lazarus. Your vague and impossible promises to Ebonyians failed to live up to your grand assurances. Yet, astonishingly, you remain utterly uncowed by your own failures. After you were drubbed by your Deputy, you pretended humility and invited Ebonyians to WDC only to end up with tales by the moonlight on clear issues surrounding your defeat by your Deputy. Before your defeat, you went on a despotic tirade during an impeachment in the State House of Assembly when you were quoted as saying “AS FAR AS I’M CONCERNED THERE WAS NO IMPEACHMENT”. Even the military junta during their reign in Nigeria may not have used such hard word on their subjects to reverse an already concluded arrangement which was a blessing in disguise for you. It is possible that God was using the impeachment to direct you on what to do but you ignored and neglected the signs. Blame no one your Excellency, your Deputy and the speaker of the State House of Assembly are just doing what you thought them to do and will carry on with it if elected. It appears you believe in ignorance. In fact, you bank on the public’s ignorance in order to benefit your personal agendas. You must have very little faith in your own abilities as a governor and that may be why most of your plans crumbles. While other Governors lord it over their deputies in other state in Nigeria, the reverse is the case to you. Where has your usual “irreversible and irrevocable” gone to? When your cohorts advised you to use certain people, group or clans as pawns for your own political gains, you never knew a time like this would come. However, another school of thought is of the view that the governor should not bear the blame alone. That Deputy Governor who did not resign in the face of the raging maladministration is to share from the blame. The Deputy Governor cannot deny he is unaware that as he was a party to the problems in the state. There are allegations from some quarters that the Deputy Governor is unseen hand in the implementation of Governor Elechi’s obnoxious policies. Your Excellency, Evil begets evil; your students are doing exactly what you thought them. Ebonyians are ready to forgive you and your Deputy on the condition that both of you must apologize to them for the pains they have endured under what may be regarded as a reign of a civilian junta. The second condition is that your Deputy Eng. Umahi should withdraw from the gubernatorial race and a replacement be made as soon as possible. That is your best bet now to save yourself from the heaps of political mess you have generated as failing to comply will amount to your political quarantine
