Dear MLA Facebook Friends and Visitors: One of our alumna wanted to share some information on the listserv about a book project she is working on, "Bet on Black: African-American Women Celebrate Fatherhood in the Age of Barack Obama." This anthology combines the work of 20 powerful writers who have authored stereotype-busting essays about their fathers, grandfathers, husbands, brothers, and best friends. The book includes essays written by editors from magazines including ESSENCE, Real Simple, and Heart & Soul, as well as digital outlets such as TheRoot and MTV, in addition to work from a PRSSA Hall of Fame Award recipient. Because they are working with an indie publisher, they are reaching out to our networks to raise funds to produce the first print run. The goal is to sell 500 books in 28 days. They are also hosting a Philadelphia date on the book tour: Philadelphia, PA October 10, 2013 | 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Cocktail signing @ Art Sanctuary 628 S 16th St., Philadelphia, PA 19146 With support, the authors may exceed that! They invite readers to join the conversation and honor the men in their lives who made their own resolutions to be the best dads they can be.
