Dear Members of the Diplomatic Community: We would like to draw your attention to this notice posted on the IRCT website: irct.org/media-and-resources/irct-news/show-news.aspx?PID=13767&Action=1&NewsId=3820 PCATI joins the IRCT in supporting the important work of our colleagues at the Turkish Human Rights Foundation and of the Turkish Medical Association (TMA). The core right to be free from torture and ill treatment is complemented and enriched in the right to have quality access to treatment for victims of torture and ill treatment. Similarly access to justice and the realization of the right to ones bodily integrity, infringed upon by State practices, demands the availability of forensic medical and psychological evaluations in accordance with Istanbul Protocol standards. We kindly ask members of the diplomatic community to use their position to convey either directly or via their capitals concern regarding that which is raised and reflected in the link above. Similarly we ask that the diplomatic community impress upon the Turkish authorities their ongoing obligations regarding freedom of expression and their obligations regarding preventing excessive police force in the context of demonstrations. Finally we would also ask that the diplomatic community convey their support of civil society organizations in Turkey and make particular note of their interest in the security and freedom of both the TİHV and TMA.
