Dear Mother and Daddy, This morning I am so thankful to be blessed with the ability to post a video in which your Granddaughter Diedra (Wendy) Carlson with her talented performance of Sojourner Truth at OShaughnessy Theater gives an important history lesson to the world. Many American citizens are not aware that even though Susan B. Anthony is the woman celebrated for paving the way for womens rights to vote, it was really black slave Sojourner Truth who was instrumental in making changes. Sadly, she is not celebrated. Perhaps this video will prompt many of us to take action to change that and begin rightfully celebrating the amazing Sojourner Truth. During my research for this monologue that I assigned to Wendy to perform at OShaughnessy, I discovered several documents that stated that white women were afraid to speak about womens rights at an all-male conference where some of their husbands would be present so they talked Sojourner Truth into getting up in front of their husbands and other males and giving a speech on womens rights to vote. I am so pleased and thankful to my College of Saint Catherine acting teacher for coaching Wendy with her monologue and George Poletes, also one of my theater teachers for supporting me by sitting on the front row of OShaughnessy to witness Wendys amazing performance. Wendys amazing performance is all because of your teaching, Mother, that your daughters not be afraid to stand up for what they believe in and not be afraid to speak the truth, even though many relatives and so-called friends try to disqualify them. Daddy, Wendys performance took place because you taught me about faith in God who provided me and your Daughter Christine through various ways with the funds we needed to showcase Wendy and Nicky. Thank you, my Heavenly Father, for blessing me to be born into the E.J. and Etta Mae Trotter Family where I learned about faith from my Dadday and perseverance and humility from my Mother.
