Dear Southern Gospel Friends, It has been awhile since we have sent out an E-Mail Concert Newsletter. After hosting three concerts between March 15 and April 11, which included The Collingsworth Family, The Sould Out Quartet, and The Booth Brothers, I was spiritually-filled, but totally-tired. You know that we always take the summer off from hosting concerts, although Tom and I look forward to attending Southern Gospel concerts, which others are hosting, as we find the time this summer. Although we have received much needed rain in our area during the last couple of weeks, the weather has also delayed our plans to plant the crops. So far, we only have 1 1/2 days of corn planting finished, but we know that God is in control, and that we are so thankful for. Besides helping Tom with farm errands, cooking for the men, and practicing my keyboard music for church services, I have been spending my time planning/preparing for our daughter, Jordans wedding to Tyler Carlson, which will take place on Sept. 6 [eight days before our next concert]. The wedding will take place at our church, First Christian, Disciples of Christ in Oskaloosa, where both Jordan & Tyler are members. Many of you have been in our church for concerts which we have hosted and you know that our church sanctuary is very modern. Jordan & Tyler have chosen to have a Christian country/western wedding. Yes, we are doing our best to transform the church stage to look western....barn board wall across the back, fence across the front for the horse saddles to set on, whiskey barrel to set the unity candle on, sun flowers in milk cans, and I am sewing strips of burlap material together...enough to cover the floor of the stage. Well bring in a few bales of straw to complete the set. Jordan & Tyler will be living after their wedding, in the home, built in 1969, which Toms parents lived in. It is located on one of our farms which is just 5 miles from where we live. We are in the process of remodeling and cleaning this house. With all of these exciting events going on, our summer will go by quickly. I encourage you, if you havent already, to order your reserved seating tickets for our next concert, The Mark Trammell Quartet. This concert will take place on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014, 2:00 pm, at the beautiful Pella Christian High School Vermeer Auditorium. As a bonus, included with your ticket price, is a Special Pre-Concert by the Journey Bound Quartet, which will begin at 1:30 pm. Ticket prices are $18 in advance, $21 after Sept. 7, $6 for children ages 2-12, and $16 each for groups of 10 or more. Call me [Cindy] to order your tickets. You may read about all of our other scheduled concerts by checking out our website at IowaSouthernGospel. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Bar None Cowboy Church meets every Thursday evening at 7:00 pm, in Newton, Iowa [right next to Culvers Restaurant, just off the Hwy. 14 Exit]. I included this newsletter at the end of my newsletter. You will notice that the first concert listed is May 3 with The Garms Family. I realize that this concert is over, however, this concert was included in several of my past newsletters, so you were aware of it already. Everything else in Rick & Debs newsletter is current, so please read it over. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ In conclusion, I want to leave you with the verse, which our Pastor Mike Omundson, preached on the morning of Sunday, April 27. It is found in Romans 8: 28...And we know that in all things God works together for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. That very Sunday afternoon, the Oskaloosa area was hit with a severe thunderstorm [and some in the rural area had damage which resembled that of a tornado.] and suffered damage to buildings, trees, etc., but thankfully no lives in Mahaska County were lost. However, a mother in adjoining Keokuk County lost her life as a result of this storm. Several lives were lost in states south of Iowa. As a Christian, this verse is one which I hold on to. By faith, I know that so much which does not make sense to me in this world, will make perfect sense when I get to heaven. Please see information below for the next concert in our series, as well as some upcoming area concerts and gospel sings for the summer. I am still looking for a church for the morning of Sunday, July 27, 2014 to host one of the participating groups This would be for the Sunday morning following what we hope to be our first annual all-day gospel sing on July 26th. In order to make it possible for groups to participate in gospel sings, it is necessasry to have churches in the area step forward and host one of the groups. This does not have to be for an entire service and most groups will accept a free will offering if that is what your church desires, plus the opportunity to sell their CDs. Please contact me if your church is interested. Thank you!!!! Hope to see all of you at this Saturday evenings concert with The Garms Family and for the sloppy joe dinner fundraiser prior to the concert. See details below. Since their simple beginnings of singing hymns and Southern Gospel standards in the living room to the release of their third CD, Out Front, in 2013, The Garms Family has been privileged to sing at a variety of churches, festivals, events, and senior-living homes, traveling across Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Dakota. Weaving live instrumentation and their cohesive family blend with passion and energy, The Garms Family has been endearing themselves to audiences across the Midwest. They bring a fresh take on classics and share original songs through Southern Gospel, gospel bluegrass, hymns, and their own unique style of acoustic Christian music. Each song is an adventure as this live family band plays a wide variety of instruments: guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, dobro, upright bass, harmonica, piano and more. Combining their exciting musical arrangements and beautiful harmonies, the energetic family is eager to share their homegrown talents! This homeschooled family love to work as a team, and their joy as family overflows as they sing and play together. At a Garms Family concert, you never know what surprise may await you. Who knows? They might all switch instruments with each other! But above all, the Garms Family is passionate about the Gospel of Jesus Christ and loves to share the message with young and old, wherever they go. They are quick to point to the Lord as the Giver of their gifts and give Him all the glory. Their smiles, gospel music, and the message of Jesus Christ will brighten your day, give you hope for tomorrow, and leave you inspired. You will blessed and encouraged, moved to laughter and tears, and your soul will be directed heavenward by this anointed family. thegarmsfamily ******************************************* UPCOMING AREA CONCERTS ********************************************* THE GARMS FAMILY SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2014 @ 6:30 PM LOGAN CHRISTIAN CHURCH 205 EAST 8TH STREET LOGAN, IA ******************************************* RICK & DEB BOEHM SUNDAY, MAY 11, 2014 @ 5:00 PM BENEFIT CONCERT FOR ALL FOR JESUS SHELTER @ BOONE BIBLICAL MEMORIAL CHURCH 921 2ND STREET, BOONE, IA ****************************************** HASTINGS, NEBRASKA GOSPEL SING CELEBRATION FRIDAY, MAY 16: 1:15 - 8:30 PM SATURDAY, MAY 17: 1:15 - 8:30 PM ALL SAINTS CHAPEL, GOOD SAMARITAN VILLAGE 931 EAST F, HASTINGS, NEBRASKA FREE ADMISSION MEALS SOLD & SERVED ON PREMISES FOR MORE INFO: 402-460-8359 or 402-461-6462 GROUPS SINGING ARE: AMBASSADORS OF GRACE DYSART FAMILY 4-TOLD QUARTET HEIRS TOGETHER LAMBWATCHERS McINTOSH MINISTRIES MUSICAL HAMMERS FAMILY TRIO NEW SHOES QUARTET SHOAL CREEK REVIVAL SOUTHERN-AIRES THE TONEYS **************************************** NEW SHOES QUARTET @ COWBOY CHURCH IN PARIS, MO BUSINESS 24, PARIS, MO PREACHING BY STEVE MILLER OF PRAISES TO HIM MINISTRIES THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2014 @ 7 PM COWBOY CHURCH GOSPEL SING BUSINESS 24, PARIS, MO SATURDAY, JUNE 14, 2014 SINGING STARTS @12:30 PM NEW SHOES QUARTET WILL BE SINGING, ALONG WITH ADDITIONAL GROUPS TO BE NAMED AT A LATER DATE DINNER SERVED @ 6 PM ***************************************** HOPE HAVEN GOSPEL SING BENEFIT (OVER 20 GROUPS SINGING, INCLUDING NEW SHOES QUARTET & GLORY ROAD QUARTET) FRIDAY, JUNE 20 FROM 1:00pm TO 10:00pm & SATURDAY, JUNE 21 FROM 11:00am - 10:00PM CENTRAL PARK IN SIOUX CENTER, IA (RAIN LOCATION: REC CENTER @ DORDT COLLEGE ***************************************** HERMAN PARK GOSPEL FEST SATURDAY, JUNE 28, 2014 FROM 10:30am - 7:00pm HERMAN PARK PAVILION WOODLAND AVENUE & SO.
