Dear Theist, The next time you assert that an atheist has nothing to base his morals on, realize that you do not base your morals on scripture. You likely do not believe in slavery or genocide or infanticide or the oppression of women or tribal bigotry or intolerance of other beliefs and cultures or human or animal sacrifice and a host of other things. If there are any of what you would call deities, you do not know what they want The error-ridden on topics of science and history, forgery and barbarity and contradiction-filled book of his word, which ever one of these claims to exclusive truth you claim, adds no clarification.The factors that inform what you cherry pick from scripture, and the fact youre able to and know what to, therefore demonstrates your morals come from somewhere else. Likely it is the same place as the atheists morals: an evolved, scientifically-enlightened modernity whose sensibilities you would not have the benefit of knowing if you lived in a time when scripture was followed to the letter and everyone at lest pretended to believe on fear of death. Through empathy, reason, knowledge and self-reflection. You have the religion you do, through tradition, through sheer accident of the time in history and geography of your birth and historical events. Its safe to say if you were born in ancient Greece or modern China you would hold different beliefs. You likely see clearly the tricks and evils and absurdities of other cults and lose no sleep over it. You likely do not believe in the supernatural beyond the specific type you were likely indoctrinated into from childhood. A little bit more scrupulous intellectual honesty, courage, investigation and honest reflection is likely to be what separates you from the atheist. You are, after all, likely an atheist about every other god, cult or supernatural proclamation, all without any evidence,that has ever existed....
