Dear compatriots, for some time now I’ve felt extremely uncomfortable about the vitriol we are constantly pouring on our poor defenseless jolly Prez. I was convinced that no one could be so utterly useless and irredeemable, despite the evidence. So, I was relieved yesterday, when I heard that he chose to reveal a nobler aspect of his usual devil-may-care nature by staying at home rather than attend some jamboree in Brussels or somewhere. (Take that! All ye who shout that he loves to waste tax-payers’ money.) What moved me was his reason for cancelling his trip. Because Bob’s Grace couldn’t go shopping. This shows the grit of a true fellow. Courage under fire from the beautiful lady with the big nose. Never mind that one often is judged by one’s fiends, it is the way one stands by and supports one’s fiends that is important. Apart from all the sentiment and emotion involved, I cannot but feel that this is one of those pivotal moments in history, like the invasion of the Isles by the Romans; all the torching of libraries anywhere ever; Krakatoa; Brigitte Bardot; the birth of Facebook, and so on. I’m praying that our leader would be more effective in his absence - that folk would get so excited that they would change their minds. Perhaps we could then tolerate some seasons of unprecedented economic growth. Like in those years after May the 31st, 1961, when the sweet demented Hendrik F. dumped a republic on us.
