Demasting at Sea: Infinity is facing a new challenge--you may be able to help! Under way, a sudden gust of wind caused our main mast with all sails up to collapse and plunge into the sea. Though very impressive to watch, the demasting devastation went surprisingly smoothly. Infinity herself remains intact, hardly a scratch. The mizzen and crew alike remain standing strong. Weve had rock solid input from everyone: Clemens launched a diving mission as Iron Man and the crew hauled each piece up from the water. The sails, rigging, and mast are now all safely secured on Infinitys deck. Our sail area is now reduced, so we are sailing slower than usual and will arrive a few days late in Tahiti. The good news is that we will continue the journey as planned to Hawaii where we will be rebuilding infinitys rig to her former glory. We are in control of the situation while at sea but the rebuild will put us in an extra tight squeeze, especially financially. We will rely on the help from all of our friends to keep the journey going against all odds.
