Denison University is seeking a full-time Assistant Director for Career Exploration and Development. The Assistant Director coordinates various programs and services of the Career Exploration and Development office. Provide primary design, implementation and coordination of the graduate and professional school application and selection process – coaching students and alumni with regard to careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, other health-related fields, as well as MBA, Law, Master and PhD programs. Essential Job Functions: --Collaborate with academic advisors to assist students in understanding course requirements for admission to a broad range of pre- professional and graduate schools. --Guide students and alumni through the professional school application process, including, without limitation, application materials, entrance examinations (e.g. MCAT, LSAT, GMAT,DAT or GRE), personal statements and interviews, as well as providing general guidance on professional school financing. --Collect and maintain data pertaining to the admission of students and alumni to pre-professional schools and graduate programs. --Develop and maintain relationships with admission representatives from pre- professional and graduate schools. --Assist in advising all students and alumni in self-assessment, career exploration, decision-making, and job search skills. --Collaborate with current staff to develop and promote clinical, research and other experiential learning opportunities which will make students better informed, more competitive candidates. --Develop and oversee the content of the pre-professional and graduate school section of the website and other informational newsletters, brochures and materials. Research and maintain appropriate resources for students and alumni relating to pre-professional post-graduate opportunities. --Advise and promote the efforts of pre-professional organizations. Maintain membership in national and professional organizations. Meet with prospective students and parents during Admission days and programs. --Design and conduct career-related workshops and programs appropriate to the application and selection process. --Coordinate various programs and services of the Career Exploration and Development office. --Assist in the overall planning of special programs and events such as Career Fairs, First Look Chicago, Internship program, ExternsEverywhere and related workshops. --Keep Director informed of relevant issues and/or events regarding the health professions program. --Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Masters Degree in Student Personnel, Counseling and Guidance, Higher Education or closely-related field. A minimum of one year of experience advising students on pre- professional and graduate schools in a career development setting/office. Excellent administrative and organization skills with attention to details. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Commitment to the mission of a liberal arts college. Public speaking and/or workshop presentation experience. Experience in advising on decision-making and career exploration. Experience in advising on resumes, interviewing and job search strategies/correspondence. Strong work ethic. Possess the following competencies: excellent project follow-through ability; communication skills focused on interactions/relationships; analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills, polished presentation skills, understanding of employer/organization development within a liberals arts framework; and a thorough understanding of the liberal arts. Strong student advocacy with proven ability to work within a liberal arts setting.
