Denny Hamlin, Darian Grubb and the No. 11 team of Joe Gibbs Racing have been hit with a major penalty for illegally configured firewall plates at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The team has been docked 75 points, Grubb has been fined $125,000 and both Crew Chief and Car Chief are suspended for 6 weeks. Still, the points hit only knocks Hamlin down to 22nd place, well within the top 30, which means the teams Chase berth is likely safe. (Conveniently, Grubb will return for the Chase opener at Chicagoland Speedway.)
