Depression is not a flaw in character, depression is a flaw in chemistry. Ive listened to many people (myself included) trying to pinpoint the potential cause of their depression or anxiety to their past, often saying they believe it could come from any or many of a number of situations. Im no expert, but I do firmly believe the sole cause of anyones anxiety or depression is their individual brain chemistry – and its tolerance levels in dealing with all the situations life throws at us. Surely thats the only way to explain how two people can face the same daunting challenges, with one sailing through while the other struggles then crumbles. Mix enough situations into the test tube however, and anyones brain chemistry has the potential to weaken and turn black. Never underestimate the convincing power of brain chemistry. And never underestimate your own power to become the master of your brain chemistry - rather than its victim.
