Despite the sincere speech by mr. Frans Timmermans (Dutch minister of foreign affairs) I am of the opinion that the west bears responsibility for Russias big mouthed attitude and the subsequence despicable behavior of its drunk errand boys who call themselves separatists. The west is making Russia big by helping and providing Russia with the best western technology for the exploitation of Russian Oil and Gas. The so called democratic and free western countries, or more over the corporates, are making Russia big. And now we are surprised? I am not. I could see this coming years ago. Instead of intensively developing alternate energy sources to the maximum extend, the west (EU & US) rather neglected these efforts and made themselves almost completely depending on oil and gas energy from dubious countries and thus allowing these countries to gain lots of money, to get big and inevitably challenging our values. In other words: corporate interests have prevailed over western governments that therefor did not ask for any reform of these dubious countries like Russia. Russia, where critical journalists are being murdered, human rights are repressed, and opposition is blocked by all means. The west did not demand anything, instead the west is providing loans, equipment and know how without asking questions. That should stop as the first signs of Russias big mouth brings along the stinking breath of despotism we smell now. The EU and the US and other western nations should endeavor to its best of their capabilities to reduce dependance of oil, gas and coal to an absolute minimum and thus developing alternate clean sources instead of feeding dubious countries mouths. Will this tragic event be the eye opener? Will it be the turning point? I sincerely hope so.
